Mason Parker Releases New Single and Music Video, “Stereotype” featuring Keeyen Martin

Hip Hop was created to be the voice of the people, the often unheard and marginalized. Historically Hip Hop is deeply rooted in social justice and equality for Black, Brown and Indigenous people, and Mason Parker’s most recent single and accompanying music video, “Stereotype” featuring singer-songwriter Keeyen Martin and produced by Brandon “Plan B ‘85” Ross, is a clear nod to the genre’s activist roots. “Stereotype” is the third single from Parker’s debut studio album Quantum Leap.

The song’s message of love, equality, and inclusivity comes at a time when the country is experiencing widespread protests against police brutality in the wake of the murders of Breonna Taylor, George Floyd, and a host of others killed by the police across the nation. It’s a needed message for today’s social climate.

“I hope that this song helps to create the space necessary to have the conversations, that while uncomfortable, are essential to the progress these times so desperately call for,” explains Parker. “It’s so easy for us to take each other at face value without ever getting to know the person behind the stereotype they exude.”

There are several special cameos in the music video for “Stereotype”  from notable Charlotte residents including playwright, performing artist, and artistic director Quentin Talley; professional speaker and educator Dr. Mike Watson, Ed.D; and NASCAR pit crew coach Mike Metcalf of Red Bull Racing.

Parker has also committed to donating a percentage of all of his merchandise sales from June until further notice to Restorative Justice CLT a nonprofit organization that aims, per their website restorativejusticeclt.org, “to reduce the growth and harm of a history of discriminatory practices and policies in Charlotte-Mecklenburg.”

“Stereotype” is currently available for download and streaming via all major online music retailers. The official music video can be seen on Parker’s YouTube channel, youtube.com/INKifiedInc.
